Profit of Research In Motion dropped with 71% in Q3 2011
The Revenues of the Canadian technology manufacturer Research In Motion in the third quarter of fiscal year (until 26 November) reported a decline of 6% to 5.169 billion dollars (3.9 billion) from the previous quarter. However, profit slump by as much as 71% and amounted to only 265 million dollars (201 million), or 0.51 dollars per share. The reason for this poor result, according to company's loss of nearly $ 500 million, the manufacturer of BlackBerry suffer because of weak sales of tablet PlayBook, and 54 million dollars compensation paid to victims in the interruption of messaging services in October. Thus the results of the RIM in the quarter disappointed analysts. In a Reuters poll they expected a profit of 1.19 dollars per share on revenue of 5.27 billion dollars. Between August and November were delivered 14.1 million the number of BlackBerry, which is 33% growth the previous quarter. Three months ago the company spoke forcefully on the sales of its latest generation of Blackberry, as well as the new top model Bold 9900. Analysts expressed doubts, however, is clearly justified. During the quarter the company has sold 150 000 tablets PlayBook. RIM recently tried to gain new customers with massive discounts. One of the two CEOs Mike Lazaridis said that the concessions already showed first results. He also reassure investors and customers that the company will remain on the tablet market. The number of Blackberry subscribers last quarter jumped 35% to 75 million positive development was explained by the strong exchange rate of expansion abroad. How many new customers were won outside North America, however, is not yet clear.
For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 and RIM expected lower revenue - between 4.6 and 4.9 billion dollars, and much more modest smartphone shipments - around 11-12 million units. In addition, both managing directors Jim and Mike Lazaridis Conditioner announced that they reduce their annual salaries of 1 USD. During the presentation of the financial results of RIM Jim Balsam announced that the first smartphone in the new BlackBerry OS 10 will appear on the market until the "latter part of 2012 a", which probably means the fourth quarter. Despite the relatively good results in terms of revenue and sold smartphones, RIM is in no hurry with the next generation of devices under the brand-new operating system, which many analysts considered his saving opportunity. The official reason for the delay is the lack of available chips for new devices.
